Amazon to invest $100M in new Indiana manufacturing facility

Amazon this week announced plans to invest more than $100 million in a new 585,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing facility located in Greenwood, Indiana. The company claimed the facility will result in 300 skilled manufacturing and engineering jobs.
The facility will produce products that power Amazon’s fulfillment and robotics network across North America. Amazon expects to launch the site by 2028.
Amazon has built one of the largest industrial robotics manufacturing operations in the world at its facilities in Massachusetts. So far, the company has manufactured more than one million robots in the U.S. to date. Those robots are now deployed across more than 300 facilities globally. Amazon said they assist employees with 75% of all customer orders the company delivers worldwide.
The Greenwood facility follows an August announcement of a new robotics manufacturing investment in Texas, as Amazon continues to expand its domestic manufacturing footprint. Amazon selected the Greenwood site based on Indiana’s manufacturing workforce, competitive cost structure, logistics infrastructure, and business-friendly environment, it claimed.
The approximately 585,000-square-foot facility will integrate advanced fabrication, robotic welding, automated powder coating, and assembly capabilities under one roof. AWS and AI -powered smart manufacturing systems and robotics will support these. The facility will produce products used in Amazon fulfillment centers across North America.
Amazon continues to invest in robotics
In recent years, Amazon has been investing in robotics across many parts of its business. The company has more than 1 million robots operating in its fulfillment centers, helping with stowing, picking, sorting, and intra-facility transport. Outside of its fulfillment centers, the company has also invested in modernizing its delivery network.
Earlier this year, Amazon acquired RIVR , a developer of quadruped wheeled robots for doorstep delivery . RIVR had been on Amazon’s radar since 2024, when Jeff Bezos led the company’s $22 million seed round through Bezos Expeditions and HongShan. Amazon shut down its own Scout delivery robot program back in 2022; and the company could be looking for a new robotic doorstep delivery option.
Additionally, the company recently announced plans to expand its Prime Air service to nearly 500 cities and towns in the U.S. by the end of 2026. The company said this is a sixfold increase from its current footprint. It would give tens of millions of customers access to drone delivery.
